Epitaphs
A headstone epitaph is a very personal choice, and should not be influenced by others. The best epitaphs are timeless and we advise waiting at least a year before choosing so that emotions have time to settle and you don’t later regret your choice.
Less is more. The most touching epitaphs are often the shortest. Many of my favourites are epitaphs that family members made up or found in poems, songs and books. Often, they fit their beloved perfectly. Mel Blanc’s epitaph is “That’s all, folks” – a beautiful tribute to his life’s work.
An important thing to remember is that the inscription will be there for hundreds of years. Best, we think, to let it reflect the joy of your beloved’s life. Here are a few we like…
Classic Epitaphs
Dearly loved
Once met, never forgotten
Remembered with love
Love you always
Generous of heart, constant of faith.
Love you miss you
In everloving memory
May his memory be eternal
Forever in our hearts
Until we meet again
Loved and remembered
Time passes, love remains
She dances with angels
Dance, then, wherever you may be
Angels sing thee to thy rest
Blessed sleep to which we all return
A long life, well lived.
An inspiration to all
Your love still lights my way
Epitaphs for Children
Children are the keys of paradise
Held for a moment, loved for a lifetime.
Budded on Earth to bloom in Heaven.
May you find comfort in the arms of an angel.
A painter of rainbows
I held you your whole life
May you dance with stars and touch the moon
Born into the arms of the Angels
Tread carefully, here lies our world
So small, so sweet, so soon
Hush my dear, and slumber
Sleep, my little one, sleep
A tiny soul takes wings
Missed with a grief beyond tears
No foot so small it cannot leave an imprint
My sun, my moon, and all my stars
Somewhere over the rainbow
Sometimes love is for a moment
Sometimes love is for a lifetime
Sometimes a moment is a lifetime
Remember your loved ones with an eternal memorial.
